Tennisball Cricket Association 2005 Season Announcement

The largest cricket organization in Bay Area announces its 2005 season with emphasis on quality, expansion and programs for youth.

Fremont, CA January 7, 2005 -- Tennisball Cricket Association, the largest cricket organization in Bay Area, today announced plans for its fifth season. The 2005 season starts on February 26 and ends on October 30. Also planned is a post-season league from November to January. TCA plans to organize the 2005 season in its popular signature format which has been adapted by many other leagues - Knockout Tournament, League and Open Tournament across the cities in Bay Area, Calif. Knockout Tournament is playoff style tournament and runs from April 16 to May 22 whereas Open Tournament which runs from August 27 to October 30 is round-robin first round with play-offs in all higher rounds.

TCA also announced plans to introduce local chapters outside the demography of Bay Area. The local chapters will bring Tennisball Cricket clubs and leagues under a common nationwide umbrella of TCA. Expansion outside the Bay Area will help in laying common rules for the sport and help gear Cricket as a mainstream sport.

Though we put initial cap of 72 teams for 2005 season, we are anticipating enrollment from more than 80 teams or roughly 1200 individuals., says President, Ajay Pal Singh, Quality is the key factor for 2005. TCA is introducing colored uniforms, plans to certify umpires and run a pilot youth league to increase the visibility and awareness of Cricket in the local community. Tennisball Cricket has become popular sport among working professionals. Amateur cricketers often find it difficult to commit long hours outside their valuable family time over the weekend to regular cricket., said Singh. Tennisball Cricket is more competitive and entertaining way to play cricket in short time.

We successfully conducted youth coaching camp pilot program for kids between ages 5-15 last year twice, one in June and another in October for 8 weeks each time. For 2005 we want to go a step further and initiate first ever Youth Cricket League across the Bay Area in schools and cities, says Secretary, Parag Kulkarni. Well be working closely with school and city administration to put infrastructure for youth programs in place. TCA is also planning to import a certified cricket coach for its youth programs to Bay Area as certified cricket coaches are practically non-existent in US.
